Jonas Chaney is a Chicago born broadcast veteran who migrated from WISH-TV in Indianapolis to WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh in 1985. During his 31-year tenure in Pittsburgh Jonas has also worked for WTAE-Radio, American Urban Radio Networks, WAMO, and National Public Radio’s WDUQ. He has also taught at Texas A&M University, Duquesne University and the Pittsburgh Technical Institute. He earned a Master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1977. During his three year stay with WDUQ he won six Golden Quill awards including two best-in-state honors for investigative reporting.

Jonas is presently the Public Affairs Director for WPXI-TV where he received two national AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) American Scene awards for best documentary. In 2007 Jonas wrote, produced and co-directed, Biking Through Black History. He also wrote and produced, Here’s to Life, a 2008 African American History Special about the Healthy Class of 2010. The half-hour special examined the new wellness philosophy of inner city students. Jonas also works as a professional actor on stage and with the University of Pittsburgh’s Medical School as a Standardized Patient.
